Some things good, some things not so good

I bought this kit recently for a bowfishing excursion, The Great Lakes Bow Fishing Championship. The reel I would give an 8/10. It works well on the shoot but can be a bit difficult on the retrieve. The reel will get jammed up on occasion when reeling in a fish. However, on the flip, it is fantastic on the shot, never had a tangle once and the arrow loses almost nothing speed wise, meaning accuracy at those longer shots. The reel is well designed to be convenient to operate when you have to retrieve.

The arrows were great. Easy to remove, extremely accurate, straight flying and durable after several 100 shots. Only broke a nock once and it is a simple repair. 10/10

The biggest downside I found with the equipment in general is materials, which leads me to my biggest gripe, the arrow rest. 99% if the reel and rest are plastic. The arrow rest, in particular, had the mounting bracket break when I loosed an arrow that had, unbeknownst to me, a damaged nock. The arrow came off a bit funny as the knock split on release and the mounting bracket which is held to the bow by one of the only metal components, a screw, snapped on one side half way between where it mounts to the bow and the clamp for the rest. I find using plastic components, especially on something that a 200 ft/sec projectile is flying through, questionable (2/10). For 150 dollars at Cabela’s, and meant for a sport where people will often find themselves on rough terrain (those of us with more meager means and have to fish from shore), I expected higher quality and durable materials and components.

When we hear about our Tidal Wave rest breaking it usually has to do with the arrow being nocked incorrectly or when line gets wrapped around it. The most likely cause is that the arrow was nocked upside down with the shock pad facing down. When this happens the shock pad hits the roller on the arrow rest and causes the arrow to veer off in a different direction and sometimes the arrow rest will break. We also offer a higher quality arrow rest made of anodized aluminum at the following link.
